The first visible reference point in the Plaza San Martin is the Cathedral, behind that the Monasterio de Santa Catalina, separated from El Cabildo by the magnificent passage of Santa Catalina.
Returning to Plaza San Martin as a starting point, you can follow a circuit which gives you as much a flavour for the modern part of the city as its historic past, expressed in its excellent architectural heritage.
The circuit also takes in various shopping centres and malls.

Having always been the centre of the city's civic ativities, its facilities are now used for exhibitions, an auditorium, shows and a tourist information centre.
The original construction, dating from the 17th century, has undergone numerous modifications.
These modifications has made it lose a good part of its primitive colonial character. It served as town hall and prison and later housed the police headquarters.

| Casa del Obispo Mercadillo |
In Rosario de Santa Fe 39 can be seen a tiny part of the house that was occupied by Obispo Juan Manuel Mercadillo when he moved to Cordoba, seat of the Diocese of Tucuman in the year 1698.
A highlight is the rich ornamentation of the front, of which the iron balcony, unique for its design and craftmanship, stands out, as does the oratory that formed part of the mansion in which the Obispo lived.

| Rectorado de la Universidad Nacional de Cordoba |
Administered by the Jesuits from 1600 till 1767, the Rectorado was inaugurated in 1613 by the Compañia de Jesus, with Art and Technology
faculties. It has ten faculties and a series of schools and institutes. Of its much valued architecture stands out the Salon de Actos and the Gran biblioteca, which contains a heritage of documentation from the 14th century and a Jesuit library, as well as possessing a small temple for Dr Dalmasio Velez Sarsfield, author of the Civic Code.
It is now home to the Faculty of Law.

From the very foundation of the city, this stream, tributary of the river Suquia, brought problems to the inhabitants because of the floods that would occur when its waters rose.
In 1939 it was decided to turn it into a canal and this project was finished in 1950.

| Observatorio Astronomico y Servicio Meteorologico Nacional |
Built in 1870, it was inaugurated on the 24th October 1871 under the presidency of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento. Its infrastructure was completed in 1942 with the inauguration of the Bosque Alegre astrophysics room.
It was declared a national historic monument.

Originally called the Teatro Rivera Indarte, as it is still popularly known, the Teatro del Libertador was built in 1887 and has decorative details of great value, such as its statues with mythological figures, lanterns, etc. Its magnificent acoustics make it the equal of the world´s best theatres.
In the same building there is also the Cristobal de Aguilar Museum of Theatre and Music.

| Casa del Virrey Sobremonte |
Now home to the Museo Provincial de Historia, the Casa del Virrey Sobremonte is the most beautiful colonial mansion that has been conserved. Dating from the year 1752, the house was home to the Marquis of Sobremonte, Governor Mayor, between 1784 and 1796.
Of note are the chapel, the courtyard, the corner balcony and the top floor bedrooms. The original furnishing and some very important historical objects have been conserved. It is situated in calle Rosario de Santa Fe, on the corner of Ituzaingo, and has been declared a National Historic Monument.

In 1559 the Jesuits established themselves in the Manzana and built the church, the Capilla Domestica and the Residencia de los Padres. Furthermore, on these same premises, they founded the University and College. Today these buildings are home to the Rectorado de la Universidad Nacional de Cordoba and the Colegio Nacional de Monserrat.
In December 2000, the Jesuit Manzana - made up of the Iglesia de la Compania de Jesus, the Capilla Domestica, the Colegio Nacional de Monserrat and the Casa de Trejo (the Rectorado de la Universidad Nacional de Cordoba) - was, together with the Estancias Jesuiticas de Cordoba, declared a Human heritage site by UNESCO.

This magnificent work of colonial American architectre has been declared a national historic monument.
Of note are the great dome, its neoclassical style iron gate with the silhouettes of St Paul and St Peter and the two Baroque style bell towers. The interior is divided into three naves and was magnificently decorated in the first years of this century under the direction of Emilio Caraffa. Among its treasures is the 1804 Sagrario de plata.
