 Civic Center

This is one of the most typical and characteristic places in the city, now a National Historical Monument. Its buildings are mediaeval in style, and cluster around the small and picturesque "Expedicionarios del Desierto" Square. Around it lie the following local government and public buildings: the Municipality, the Municipal Tourism Secretariat, the Police Station, the Patagonian Museum and the Sarmiento Public Library, the former Post Office building (now an exhibition hall) and the former Customs building. It was officially inaugurated in 1934.

 Small Circuit

One of the most traditional excursions .The trip begins downtown, more precisely on Ezequiel Bustillo Avenue, which borders Lake Nahuel Huapi with a winding layout. Eight kilometers ahead lies a beach called Bonita. Opposite you can see Huemul Island. This island was declared historical, ecological, touristic municipal reserve in 1994. Thus, traveling along just 60 kilometers, visitors may admire not only the urbane development with its typical houses made of wood and stone, Cerro Viejo Eco-tourist Park, the pioneers houses etc. but also the flora of the region, ”cipreses, maitenes, cohíues y ñires”. Thus you can get to know places of singular beauty all along the tour.

 Cerro Otto

5 Km outside of the city center past Belgrano Square is Cerro Otto. Alternatively you can walk or go by car. There is also a cable railway that will take you to the top in only 12 minutes. Some people prefer to walk for 2 or 3 hours and in this way discover the hill step after step.
Multiple activities can be done: guided walks through the “lengas” forest, mountain bike excursions, rock climbing, sledge rides and northern ski in winter.

 Swiss Colony

The Swiss Colony is located in the area between Lake Moreno and National Route Nº 237. This small village is framed in a wild mountain environment and its picturesque wooden houses give it a very special charm.
Colonia Suiza was the area where Swiss and French immigrants settled by the end of the XIX century. Many families, such as the Goyes and Mermouds raised cattle and grew barley and rye. Due to tourism many of them moved to San Carlos de Bariloche. However, some still grow raspberries and live in the typical wooden houses there.

Cerro Tronador and Cascada de los Alerces

The highest and largest mountain in Patagonia's Lake District is Mount Tronador, with around 3554 m. Its three peaks Argentinean, Chilean and International together with the glacial area are a breathtaking view. The “Cascada de Los Alerces” (waterfall) is a variation of the previous mentioned excursion, where The Manso River -whose name means calm- can be seen when precipitating rapidly among the rocks, through a 20 meters unevenness. From the road the beautiful colour of Lake Los Moscos can be admired, surrounded by beaches, mountains and vegetation. The Manso river rapids accompany the tour.

Isla Victoria and Bosque de Arrallanes

It takes 1 hour 40 minutes to get there by boat; the island is the largest in the lake. It is possible to take various excursions as well as walks along the narrow lanes of hundred year-old coíhues and native cypresses. You may also visit the lagoons and its four harbors, and enjoy the presence of the only inland water cormorant colony, the imperial cormorant, pheasants, peacocks, woodpeckers and hummingbirds.
With a first-class gastronomic center, and a modern chairlift, this island represents an important natural reservation which also holds cave paintings over 500 years old.
