Spanish in Argentina

The city stands out for its architectural features and for being located in a priviledged region due to the beauty of its landscapes made up of mountains, woods, lakes, glaciers, and an exuberant flora.
It is one of the most important tourist centres in Argentina, within the centre arteries there are varied shops and commercial shop centres, cafeterias, and restaurants. The city also has an important busy night life.
Date of the national and international tourism, Bariloche can be enjoyed all the year long. In the spring and summer seasons, it is ideal for carrying out all kinds of excursions and outdoor activities; in winter, the snow offers a singular panorama, including the skiing spectacle in one of the most important Argentine centres for the practice of this sport in South America: Mount Cathedral.

 History

The name of the city is the combination of Bariloche, the Spanish distortion of the native name Vuriloche, a word from the "tehuelche" language meaning "different people, from the other side"and the name of he first white man to settle in what is today the urban center of Bariloche, Carlos Wiederhold in 1895. It is believed that Wiederhold received a letter wrongly addressed to "San Carlos" instead of Mr. Carlos or "Don Carlos", this becoming the origin of the name of the town, that was officially christened on May 3, 1902, the date of its foundation.
Few cities in the world are built on a lake of cold waters and reveal and surrounded of mountains and hills of the cord cordillerano, but none with the beauty and charm of Bariloche. To 770 mts. on the level of the sea, and located in the Park National Nahuel Huapi, it is the access door to the Patagonia and the Corridor of the Lakes, it is one of the main tourist destinations of the Argentina. Their primitive residents were the pehuelches, puelches, poyas and vuriloches.
